Top 5 Oil Stocks To Buy Right Now

NEW YORK (AP) -- Oil stalled Monday, after last week's 4 percent gain, as traders await the latest readings on oil supplies and updated forecasts for demand.

Benchmark oil for July delivery fell 26 cents to close at $95.77 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Oil rose $4.06, or 4.4 percent, last week and closed at $96.03 a barrel on Friday.

Traders are waiting for updated forecasts on global oil demand. OPEC and the U.S. Energy Department issue their monthly reports Tuesday, while the International Energy Agency, an umbrella group for the world's oil-consuming nations, gives its update Wednesday.

The Energy Department also comes out with its weekly report on oil and fuel supplies, as well as demand for gasoline in the U.S. Last week's report of a bigger than expected drop in oil supplies helped boost oil prices.

At the gas pump, the average price of a gallon of gasoline barely budged over the weekend. It's at $3.635, up about 2 cents so far in June. Despite that steadiness, the range of prices across the country is wide. Gas average $3.22 a gallon in South Carolina. But drivers in Michigan are paying $4.22 on average, because refinery outages have created gasoline shortages. Michigan gas prices have risen 42 cents in a month.

    Phillips 66 (NYSE: PSX  )
The refiner's top and bottom lines have exploded in recent years thanks to America's energy renaissance. Net income in 2012 was 461% higher than in 2010 and 766% higher than during the recession in 2009. That's incredible for a company of such size, but can it continue? Both sales and income slipped compared with 2011, and it seems as if the market is pricing in a continuing trend. The company trades with a P/E below 8 and a dividend yielding more than 2%, both potential steals for investors. Better yet, the profit margin in the first quarter of this year was 143% higher than that from the year ago period. It looks as if Phillips 66 can keep its profit machine going so long as domestic oil prices maintain their advantage on the international market.

    The tragedy of exports
With new calls for energy independence in the U.S., many Americans don't understand why gas prices remain so high. The reason is simple: With prices for refined products largely set by international markets, it has become more lucrative to export gasoline than to keep it for domestic consumption and reduce local prices. Valero (NYSE: VLO  ) and Phillips 66 (NYSE: PSX  ) are massive exporters of gasoline and other refined products, and the differential between U.S. crude prices and those in international oil markets has only made those exports grow.
